Sheringham Little Theatre
This stage adaptation of the book by Italian Alessandro and Baricco sees master storyteller Mike Maran take to the ocean in a 1920s liner complete with jazz band and a rather unusual character on board – Nineteen Hundred, the Novecento of the title.
Although Maran's performance is at times bewitching, star of the evening is undoubtedly the set: a grand piano slung on its side as if it had been washed ashore by a storm.
The score by jazzman David Milligan hit all the right notes, but I wish he'd been there to play them in person. Still it was a magical journey.
