From a show paying homage to Kung Fu movies to a circus spectacle especially for little ones - there is lots to look forward to in The Garage's new season of shows and events.
The Chapel Field North venue is presenting an eclectic mix of entertainment throughout the spring and summer, and The Garage's executive director Adam Taylor said he was especially delighted they would be hosting lots of newly-created local work.
'It's with great pride we are able to showcase some really phenomenal productions made by local performers,' he said.
'At the moment we have got two of the shows being made in The Garage's studios and that's really a testament to what is going on around the region.
'To be able to present all of these local shows side by side with the touring productions is brilliant.'
fEast Theatre is currently in The Garage's studios working on a stage adaptation of Jeremy Page's north Norfolk-set novel Salt which will be presented on April 20 and 21. Also in rehearsal at The Garage is Chalk Circle Theatre's production of the dark comedy Norway.Today which will take to the stage from April 30 to May 4.
Later in the season there are two short plays from some of the University of East Anglia's latest stage-writing talent - Katie Smith's Amygdala and David McCabe's Little Green Men - on May 29 and 30. City College Norwich students will also perform The Light Burns Blue on June 12 and 13 June and Nell Gwynn on June 14 and 15. On June 16 Thundercake Productions will present a work in progress of their show Return of the Drunken Lotus which pays homage to the classic Kung Fu movies of the 1970s and 80s.
The magic of the big top will entertain under fives and their families when My First Circus: The Circus Child - a co-production with The Garage, All-In Productions and Lost In Translation Circus - rolls into town from July 26 to 29.
Beauty and the Beast will be The Garage's big summer production, with a cast of young performers aged seven to 18-years-old taking to the stage from July 30 to August 1.
Highlights at The Garage from further afield include comedy from Shazia Mirza on June 8 and a performance by the Mercury-nominated band Dinosaur on June 28. Wrong Shoes Theatre Company will be presenting The Unbinding – a show about four women accused of witchcraft - on June 29.
