Visitors to Norwich this week are being given the chance to witness the city being captured by a variety of talented outdoor artists.

For the second year in a row, Paint Out Norwich is being held as part of the Hostry Festival, with 40 different artists occupying spots across the city and recreating them in paint in the hope of claiming £5,000 worth of prizes.

The competition began yesterday with each artist producing four pieces of work, to be judged by an esteemed panel, with the winner set to be announced on Friday.

James Colman, one of the organisers, said: 'People of Norwich see the city as something very close to their hearts, so seeing it captured in this way really provokes an emotional response.

'The vision of our team is to encourage people to take part in this somewhat overlooked style of painting.'

Paul O'Kane, an artist from Belfast, said: 'I find painting outdoors very exhilarating. Events like these produce great camaraderie among artists.' Fellow artist Jennifer Sendall, from Ipswich, added: 'It's lovely to meet and share with other artists.'

The competition will be judged by Amanda Geitner, director of the East Anglia Art Fund, Marcus Dickey Horley and David Curtis.
