From The Wailers to Field Music: A round-up of the latest Norwich gigs announced

Autumn is always busy with gigs taking place and new announcements so here is a round-up of what new shows we've announced at the LCR and Waterfront in the last few weeks.

•The Wailers are coming back! We always have a great time hosting these reggae heroes, so we can't wait. They will be performing the album 'Legend' in its entirety plus other greatest hits, at The LCR, UEA on Sunday 11 March 2018.

•To mark the forthcoming release of their most expansive record yet, Don Broco are playing the biggest headline show of their career to date, including a date at The LCR on Monday 12 February 2018.

•The South, featuring original The Beautiful South members Alison Wheeler and Gaz Birtles, will be at The Waterfront on Saturday 14 April 2018, performing the songs of The Beautiful South. The set list includes 'A Little Time', 'Perfect 10', 'Rotterdam', 'Don't Marry Her' and more!

•Field Music, brothers Peter and David Brewis, have just announced a string of UK shows in 2018. They will be at The Waterfront on Saturday 24 March 2018!

•Former frontman of the Kat Kool & the Kool Cats, Streetband and Q-Tips, 1980s teen idol Paul Young will be returning to The Waterfront on Saturday 17 February.

•Ohio-based indie rockers Walk the Moon, the band known best for its blissed-out hit 'Shut Up and Dance', will be at The Waterfront on Tuesday 10 April 2018.

•Ragga/Punk/Metal band Skindred will be at The LCR on Thursday 19 April, as part of their Start The Machine Tour, and are bringing along CKY as support.

•Shock shock, horror horror, shock shock, horror…. Briptop legends Space are stopping by The Waterfront Studio on Friday 16 February, bringing you hits such as 'Female of The Species', 'Neighbourhood' and 'Avenging Angels'

•Mansun frontman Paul Draper has announced that he will be playing Mansun's 'Attack of The Grey Lantern' in full, as well as solo album Spooky Action and other solo material on his 2018 tour. We're looking forward to Tuesday 6 March at The Waterfront!

•A lot of us here at UEA(SU) offices spent their formative years listening to Reuben on repeat, so we are naturally very excited that ex-frontman Jamie Lenman will be bringing his solo material to The Waterfront Studio on Saturday 24 February.

From the archives - Status Quo

This month we're looking back to Status Quo's sold out show at The LCR, UEA on November 28 2004! It's hard to believe it's thirteen years since the fathers of boogie rock bought their Greatest Hits to our stage. 2008 was their 40th anniversary year since their first chart hit, and they really entertained the crowd.

We can't wait to relive the fun with Status Quo Aquostic, live at The LCR, UEA on Thursday 16th November. Francis Rossi, Andrew Bown, John 'Rhino' Edwards, Leon Cave and Richie Malone, will treat us to a memorable night of acoustic classics, such as 'Rockin' All Over the World', 'Whatever You Want', 'In the Army Now' and 'Down Down' to name a few.

Spotlight

We've recently become smitten with piece post-hardcore/punk band from Norwich, ClownSmashEverything. For fans of The Bronx, Cancer Bats, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Deftones and Queens of the Stone Age, ClownSmashEverything bring the ethos, delivery, and energy of hardcore but keep the hooks sharp and the grooves heavy.

Keep an eye out for their debut album 'The Bombs Are Getting Closer...' (recorded at Bakehouse Studios) which is released on the 1st of December. The band describe their debut as '10 tracks of relentless energy; a lean 30 minutes of angular and acerbic post-punk with flashes of Pumpkins-esque melody. The lyrics spit razor-sharp comments on post-millennial life and personal conflict, uniquely delivered with vitriol and pitch-black humour.'

If that sounds as good to you as it does to us, pop by The Waterfront Studio on Thursday 7 December - ClownSmashEverything will be co-headlining alongside anthemic alt rock and dark pop local band Kaves.

Gig of the month

There's a lot of competition for our gig of the month in November, but we really must give the honours to Mark Lanegan Band who will be at The Waterfront on Tuesday 28 November. Known for his gravelly, distinct vocals and for fronting psychedelic grunge go-to band Screaming Trees, we can't wait to become mesmerised by his brooding brand of alt rock.

As well as being front man for Screaming Trees, Lanegan has had a long and involved career in music. Most notably, spending a number of years as a member of Josh Homme-led Queens of the Stone Age. Lanegan features on their 2000 release 'Rated R', where he takes the lead on 'In the Fade', as well as being involved the album 'Songs for The Deaf' where he puts his signature stamp on 'Song for the Dead' and 'Hangin' Tree'. He was also involved in 'Lullabies To Paralyze' before leaving the band.

We also have to mention his stunning work alongside Scottish singer-songwriter Isobel Campbell and collaborations with PJ Harvey and Moby to name but a few. Not one to stop there, Mark Lanegan as a solo artist has also released nine studio albums and two EPs. If you're unfamiliar with his work, we'd really recommend checking it out.
