From an elaborate enchanted wood full of knitted unicorns, trolls and fairies to a wonderful woollen sculpture of the Queen, an array of colourful craft creations are being put in the spotlight at The Forum in Norwich.
Makers' Month started at the city venue on Monday, and throughout the next four weeks the event will be celebrating all manner of crafts by showcasing works of art and also giving people the chance to have a go at knitting, spinning, crocheting, painting and many other skills.
Among the works on show is an impressive knitted enchanted wood created by Gorleston-based Louise Hamilton Knit and Yarn Group.
Anne Bateman, from the group, said: 'We wanted to show the art of knitting and crochet in a totally different light. We wanted to show that they are not just for jumpers but they can also make something beautiful as a piece of artwork, and we also want to raise funds for the Louise Hamilton Trust.' Another highlight is BBC Radio 4's Women's Hour Craft Prize exhibition which was previously on show at London's Victoria and Albert Museum and features everything from a handwoven willow structure to a bespoke bicycle.
Other Makers' Month exhibits include a knitted sculpture of the Queen created by Cawston-based Petal and Purl, more than 2,000 embroidered postcards created by members of the Embroiderers' Guild, and knitted animated film Nudinits.
There are also a variety of workshops and events to get involved in.
Sue Hope, 56, from Mulbarton, was today among those creating birds in a needle felting workshop with Planet Penny. She said: 'Makers' Month is absolutely brilliant. There's a huge variety of workshops and things you can try. It also shows how we have so many talented people in Norfolk.'
Kerry Kwiatkowska, 43, from Norwich, was among those crocheting mandalas with Kally Davidson from Norwich-based Woollenwood for a work of art planned to be a key feature of next year's Makers' Month.
'Crocheting is something you often do at home on your own so it is nice to do it with others and work on a collaborative project,' she said.
'Makers' Month is also a really nice way to try new things and it's a great way to encourage more people to have a go at traditional arts and crafts.' Makers' Month runs until April 7. For more about the exhibits and workshops, visit www.theforumnorwich.co.uk/makersmonth
