Inspired by anything and everything and images galores, collage artist Paul Escott's wonderfully cluttered Norwich studio is packed full of books, magazines and old photos from which he makes his weird and wonderful art.

Forty-year-old Mr Escott - who is known as Pushkin - calls his style 'Pushkinism' and that is also the name he has given to his latest exhibition which will take place at Nunnsyard Gallery in February.

'It's definitely eclectic,' said Mr Escott, when asked how he would sum up his work.

'Everything informs me, I wouldn't say that any one thing inspires me more than the next. It's how I feel on a daily basis. It could be a picture of an old woman one day, maybe a cat the following day, and a circle the next. I just don't know. It's very much what inspires me on that specific day.'

He added: 'I like to share images that have gone before, putting them into new scenarios to bring them into the now.

'I have a lot of fun and I think people get a lot of fun from my work.'

Mr Escott, who lives in Trafford Road and has a studio at Cherry Lane Studios, studied art at Loughborough University before spending 20 years working in the bar trade, and about five years ago he discovered his passion for collage.

'I like working with vintage images, using black and white images and mixing them with others to create a balance on paper. I also like the right amount of negative space,' he said.

'I find an image and I just carry on making.'

Recycling is also a key part of his work.

'I do not throw anything away. Everything is always kept, nothing goes to waste,' he said.

'I'm a hoarder. I have collected all my life and this [collage work] allows me to collect books full of wonderful imagery.

'It's a nice way to share images with people in a new way.'
