The EDP Norfolk Adnams Food and Drink Festival is set to hit Norwich this weekend with plenty of delicious events to whet your appetite. STACIA BRIGGS finds out how you can feast on the street, take a Norfolk afternoon tea, visit a farm in the middle of the city and watch a battle with a bang(er).

There are four days of fabulous foodie fun planned in Norwich from tomorrow until Sunday – fill your larder, fill your belly, fill your weekend with the very best of Norfolk's wonderful local produce.

The Norwich Food and Drink Festival, sponsored by the Norwich Business Improvement District, will form part of the main festival, with other city-based events planned throughout the month such as Lloyd Addison's Moveable Feast (September 17) and The Great Good and Drink Festival Quiz Night (September 24).

Here are a selection of mouth-watering suggestions to help you make the most of the weekend of celebration in Norwich.

Norwich City of Ale:

Take the ale trail in Norwich and enjoy a locally-brewed pint (or half!) in one of six pubs participating in the Norwich City of Ale: visit all six pubs and you'll qualify for a free City of Ale lapel pin badge to prove your real ale allegiance.

The trail is taking place from tomorrow until Sunday and the pubs involved are The Adam and Eve in Bishopgate, Take 5 on Tombland, The Vine Tavern on Dove Street, The Lamb Inn in Orford Place, The Murderers on Timber Hill and the Trafford Arms on Grove Road. For more information, visit www.cityofale.org.uk.

The Battle of the Bangers:

Butchers across the county will be sizzling their very best sausages for a panel of expert judges and the public to sample and vote for their favourites. Whose sausage will go off with a bang? Tasting starts at 9.30am on Saturday at The Forum and closes at 3pm with the winner announced at 3pm. Winners last year were Tavern Tasty Meats and The Fruit Pig Company.

City Farm at The Forum:

On Saturday at The Forum, the Norfolk Young Farmers' Club and Easton and Otley College will bring the farm to the city. There will be cows and chickens in attendance along with a display of local crops and produce and a tractor and beet harvester. Meet the future food producers of Norfolk and find out about the EDGE apprenticeship scheme.

The Norfolk Produce Showcase:

From 9am to 5pm at The Forum on Saturday, Produced in Norfolk will present a huge variety of local produce to try and buy. Meet Norfolk Finest Foods, Norton's Dairy, Ronaldo Ices, Jamoroc Catering, Saffire Handmade Chocolates, Ethnic Fusion, Pure Apple Juice, Kitchen Gardens, Poppyland Brewery, Samphire, Winbirri Wine, Deerly Beloved, Chillies Galore, Essence Preserves and Louise's Homemade Gluten-free Cakes.

Macaron Day:

At Macarons and More, Royal Arcade, on Saturday, there will be 40 different flavours of macaron to try from the classic salt caramel and pistachio to the more bizarre – Marmite, chicken tikka masala and gin and tonic! During the day, there will be the chance to find the Golden Macaron and win your height in macarons. All profits for the day will be donated to Homestart Norwich.

Wine and Dine Norfolk Menu, Maids Head Hotel:

Running until October 6, The Maids Head Hotel will have a special three-course menu paired with Norfolk wines. Enjoy Norfolk Dapple soufflé with beetroot and walnut salad, rump of Smallburgh lamb and Norfolk rhubarb parfait with spiced gingerbread. All courses are paired with Winbirri Vineyards' wines. £35 per person, book on 01603 272008 or email events@maidesheadhotel.co.uk.

Norfolk Afternoon Tea, Assembly House, Norwich:

The Assembly House in Norwich is synonymous with sumptuous afternoon teas served on traditional tired cake stands in the beautiful surroundings of one of the city's architectural gems.

Throughout September, there will be a Norfolk-themed tea on offer with sandwiches that are filled with free range egg and Norfolk cress, creamed Binham Blue cheese, Cley Smokehouse salmon and Norfolk ham and Colman's Mustard Mayonnaise plus the famous Assembly House scones with Norfolk strawberry jam and clotted cream, carrot cake, lemon and lavender cake and Premiership-friendly canary macaroons.

With freshly-brewed tea or coffee, the tea costs £16 per person, £29.95 for two and you can add a glass of Champagne for £7.50 a glass. Book on 01603 626402 or email admin@assemblyhousenorwich.co.uk.

Meet the chef:

Forget Berwick Street, Borough and Brixton Markets or Brick Lane, Norwich is set for its own city centre street food sensation tomorrow and Friday.

Feast on the Street will see a collection of colourful trailers, trucks, vans and gazebos pitching up outside the Forum to serve a mouthwatering selection of fabulous street food from noon to 8pm on both days.

The brainchild of three Norwich traders, Tony Lacey of Mr T's Catering, Alex Cooper of Nom Catering and Lisa Carnell of Hushwing Café, it is hoped that Feast on the Street will become a monthly event.

Enjoy Lisa Earl's Fruit Pops – ice lollies packed with local ingredients – and James Downing of The Hub's fresh mackerel fillet with pickled Norfolk summer vegetables, gazpacho-style dressing and parsnip crisps or Scotts Field Farm Pork Medallions, fennel, Norfolk Russet salad, warm cider sauce and onion chutney.

The Hushwing Café will be serving artisan coffee and tea and a selection of homemade cakes, pick up an incredible grilled Norfolk cheese sandwich from Nom Catering or enjoy pizza from the Proper Pizza Company or The Wood Kitchen.

In addition to a delicious selection of portable food-on-the-run, there will also be music throughout the two days from bands such as Delay, The Sepiatones, Matt Watson, Juke and the All Drunk Orchestra, Matchbox Heroes and The Last Men Standing, featuring The Last Wine Bar's very own Ecky Limon.
