A new Norfolk Day arts project has been commissioned by Creative Arts East as part of their efforts to promote health and wellbeing in older people.
Local artists Glass House Dance and musician Les Chappell have been commissioned to work on a Norfolk inspired project as part of the Our Day Out initiative, which hosts music and dance workshops for older people.
Elderly people from across the county will visit the nature reserve in Cley, North Norfolk on Friday July 27 where they will gain inspiration for a new movement and sound piece.
Elly Wilson, the deputy director of Creative Arts East said: 'We've been championing work and research around arts, health and wellbeing for many years and we're so pleased that the Our Day Out programme has allowed us to break down as many barriers that older people experience in participating in the arts as possible and measure the impact this has on people's lives, including increasing individuals' wellbeing and decreasing social isolation.
'This commission is a great opportunity for us to encourage home-grown creativity by both supporting local artists and engaging Norfolk's older generation in creative activities.'
The project will aim to champion all things Norfolk and celebrate the beauty of Norfolk's coastal landscape.
It employs and encourages local arts practitioners to develop their skills in working with vulnerable older people, including those living with dementia and other health conditions and enables older residents to share what Norfolk means to them.
After their trip to Cley, Glass House Dance and Les Chappell will hold twice-monthly workshops in Dereham, Attleborough, Thetford, Watton, North Walsham and Wells.
Creative Arts East have been running the Our Day Out programme for two years and this particular project will culminate in a celebration of the music and movement they have created, with around 100 older people who are part of the programme returning to Cley Wildlife Centre after the workshops have been completed.
