Comedy acts will be showcasing their best jokes and musical entertainment to bring people together for Norfolk Day.

The Norfolk Comedy Festival will be taking place at the Green Dragon Tavern on Church Street, Wymondham.

It is being held on Sunday, July 29 - two days after the inaugural Norfolk Day - from 2pm.

The final gig - acts hosted by Hooma Comedy - will start at 7pm.

Stand-up comic, Martin Westgate, 25, who grew up in Norwich and set up Hooma Comedy, said: 'This is the first time we have run a festival.

'I was very excited about Norfolk Day. I'm proud of being from Norfolk. It is nice way to celebrate Norfolk comedy.'

Mr Westgate now lives in north London but grew up on Norwich's Heartsease Estate.

He has been performing stand-up comedy since 2016.

In 2018 he appeared on ITV's Britain's Got Talent television show.

'There is nothing better than making people laugh,' he added.

He started Hooma Comedy with Norfolk comedian Kahn Johnson in September 2017 at the Green Dragon Tavern. It also runs monthly gigs at KindaKafe on Castle Meadow, Norwich.

It showcases the best comics on the circuit and up-and-coming stars, including local acts.

The line-up for the festival is:

?2pm - Surreal Norfolk comedy act Normal For Norfolk.

?2.30pm - Second Hand Scott and Other Nonsense (musical comedy by Gavin Milnthorpe).

?3pm - Norfolk stand-up comedian Alex Oliver, who is going to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.

?4pm - Improvisation group the Intellectual Hooligans.

?4.30pm - Stand-up from Dom Mackie and Harrison Salter.

?5pm - That Was The Quiz That Was - a panel show loving ripping off all your favourite game shows.

?7pm - Hooma Comedy featuring Tim Fitzhigham, MC Martin Westgate, Vanessa Ward, Graham Parry and Normal For Norfolk. (tickets £6.50).

All the acts before the 7pm slot are charged on a pay what you want basis.

Norfolk Day shop

An online shop has been launched selling Norfolk Day marketing material which event organisers can display on the day.

The shop is selling a four-pack of flags, four-pack of A3 posters and 20 balloons at £4, while 5m of bunting is £7.50.

Celebration packs containing all of the above are available for £15.

Norfolk Day takes place on Friday, July 27 and is intended as a day of fun in which individuals, community groups and businesses are encouraged to get involved by hosting or participating in events.

The initiative was launched by the EDP and Norwich Evening News in partnership with BBC Radio Norfolk and has the backing of business and community organisations who are planning events for the day.
