Pop fans heading to Carrow Road next month will have another treat in store, after Lulu announced yesterday she would be joining Elton John – at his personal request.

The Scottish star will support Sir Elton as his special guest at the Norwich City stadium on Sunday, May 29, for what is expected to be the biggest bank holiday weekend concert in the country – and the largest music event the city has seen.

Organisers hope it is just the start of a string of major concerts at the stadium.

It is not the first time two of pop's most enduring stars have joined forces – they performed the song Teardrops on Lulu's 2002 duets album Together.

Elton specifically asked Lulu to appear alongside him for his tour and yesterday she said she was delighted to take up the offer.

It will be only seven months since Lulu's last appearance in Norwich, after she performed at the Theatre Royal at the end of October – but she is already looking forward to revisiting the city.

"I'm really excited to be touring with Elton this summer. His concerts are electric.

"I've known Elton for many years and he has so much energy, it's contagious. I can't wait to start the rocking on stage in Norwich."

Ben Martin, spokesman for promoters Marshall Arts, said: "It will be a fantastic event. With a bit of sunshine at the bank holiday weekend, I can see a lot of people dancing in the city."

Lulu is the only British female solo artist to appear in the charts for five straight decades, bursting on to the international pop scene at the tender age of 15 with Shout.

The 56-year-old has kept up with the times, performing with Take That for 1990's Relight My Fire and Ronan Keating for 2000's We've Got Tonight.

This summer she is set to release an album of R 'n' B classics.

A Norwich City Football Club spokesman said: "The club is already excited at the prospect of a great name such as Elton John coming to Carrow Road in May.

"Hopefully, the addition of Lulu will make what we already hoped would be a tremendous evening all the more enjoyable."

Tickets for the fully reserved, seated concert with seating on the pitch are on sale now, limited to six per customer.

They are priced at £60, £40 and £35, with a few premium tickets also available.
