An eclectic mix of live music, educational shows, cabaret, fun runs and traditional carnival floats are being lined up for this year's Lord Mayor's celebrations.

Norwich City Council announced a jam-packed schedule of events yesterday , which will run from July 7 to 10.

As always, the highlight of the festivities will be the Lord Mayor's Procession – 'East Anglia's biggest street party' - on Saturday July 9, when more than 70 floats, carnival costumes, and bands, will wind their way through the city centre.

But sandwiched in between will be a mix of samba, funk, Bollywood, brass, bhangra music and local bands including Cthru27, Motor Heroes, and Funfair at the Chaplefield Gardens.

Other events include a cabaret night at the Castle Gardens on July 7, a hands-on science day at the Inspire Science Centre, in Coslany Street, workshops at Chapelfield Gardens, the Lord Mayor's 5k road race, and fireworks on the Saturday.

This year's procession will have an 'Elements' theme to it.

A council spokeswoman urged revellers to make plans to walk, cycle or use buses or trains to keep congestion to a minimum during the celebrations.

The city's park and ride sites will have extended opening hours and First Buses will provide relief double-deckers and extra supervisors to help people get home.
