ALISON CROOSE
Ten veterans fronted by cornet player Digby Fairweather and boosted by the comic antics of baritone saxophonist John Barnes, delighted at the Corn Exchange with numbers such as Tiger Rag and Hoagy Carmichael's Jubilee.
Especially impressive was Brian Lemon's interpretation on piano of A Beautiful Friendship, trombonist Pete Strange's tribute to George Chisholm with Sizzle, clarinettist Dave Sheppard's rendering of The Very Thought of You, and bass player Len Skeat's Gravy Waltz.
The line-up was impressively completed by Mike Cotton (trumpet), Jim Douglas (guitar) Bobby Worth (drums) and Ray Wordsworth (trombone)
