Norfolk theatre company fEAST will be bringing a brand new adaptation of novelist Jeremy Page's acclaimed book Salt to the Garage, Norwich, on April 20, as part of a 12-date tour of county venues.

The show, which features Owen Evans, of well-known comedy duo the Nimmo Twins, and Robin McLoughlin, who adapted the book for the stage, follows the story of young Pip Langore (played by Sam Thompson) as he tries to make sense of his family's odd and troublesome history in North Norfolk from the end of the Second World War through to the 1980s.

It begins in Morston in 1944, when Pip's grandmother 'Goose' rescues a German airman buried up to his neck in the marsh.

Nine months later, the German vanishes in a makeshift boat, leaving Goose with a new-born daughter.

Taught to read the clouds by her mother, Lil is a strange child and when she later becomes the object of two brothers' desire, her life takes a tragic turn.

As he comes of age between the land and the sea, can Pip avoid find happiness or will he too lose himself in Norfolk's wetlands?

Set across four decades of blood, smoke, mud, tears and fish, Salt is a funny and tragic play about the relationship between people and the landscape they live in, with live music and a strong regional flavour.

Director Dawn Finnerty said the play aimed to transport the audience into Pip's 'tragic and funny' journey of survival, showing on an epic scale three generations of one family's struggle for survival in an unforgiving terrain.

She added: 'Robin McLoughlin has worked tirelessly for several years to adapt this magical and atmospheric novel for the stage and I'm really looking forward to the challenge of staging it.'

The tour, which has been supported by grants from Arts Council England, the National Lottery, North Norfolk District Council and Norfolk County Council, kicks off at the Garage, Norwich, on April 20 and 21, before stopping off at Paston College on April 25, Hoveton village hall on April 26, Westacre Theatre on April 27, Sheringham Little Theatre on April 28, St George's Theatre, Great Yarmouth on April 30, Aylsham town hall on May 1st and 2nd, Alderman Peel High School on May 3, Cley village hall on May 4 and Sedgeford village hall on May 5.
