Touring exhibition

Touring exhibition - reviewed at St George's Hall, Harleston

You remember the school exchange? Well, this was the art equivalent.

Artists from the Isle of Wight, North Devon and Norfolk traded places to cast a fresh eye on the local landscape.

And what they saw formed the material for this exhibition.

Interestingly, the three areas shared common fears: coastal erosion and the passing of traditions being high among them.

And these kept on cropping up as we watched footprints peter out on Happisburgh beach in the hazy black and white photographs of Paul Anderson, or felt the wild slipping off the page towards us in the rippling, textured images of Helen Derbyshire as she took us along the Isle of Wight coastal path towards Freshwater Bay.

Some good visual jokes alongside more serious stuff made this a great family exhibition which illuminated some unique and sometimes neglected corners of Britain. Watch out for the otter swimming through the central aisle!

t The exhibition continues around Norfolk:

t July 1, Fleggburgh Village Hall;

July 8 and 9, St Nicholas Chapel, King's Lynn;

t July 22, Fairland Hall, Wymondham;

t July 25 to August 13, The Chapel, Gressenhall Farm.
