The Manchester band got the weekend off to a thrilling start at the UEA LCR in Norwich.
Everything Everything's first attempt to headline the UEA LCR in Norwich at the beginning of March was thwarted by the Beast From the East.
Happily, despite the show being rescheduled for the unauspicious date of Friday the 13th, it was second time lucky for the Manchester band.
Touring in support of their fourth studio album, A Fever Dream, they opened their set with the title track.
One of the most innovative and exciting bands on the circuit right now, Everything Everything are impossible to pigeonhole – are they art rock? Are they indie? Are they electro? They're all of that and more. There were twists, turns and tangents – staccato beats, unexpected key changes, tricky time signatures – showing off the band's musicianship – topped off by frontman Jonathan Higgs' unmistakable falsetto.
Highlights included Regret, Kemosabe, Can't Do and Distant Past. A few old early career favourites I would have liked to have heard were left out of the set – but the show was a thrilling start to the weekend.
