Guaranteed to banish winter depression, this Ayckbourn comedy is the fourth of the Intimate Exchanges series to be staged at Eye Theatre in the last three years.

School caretaker Lionel Hepplewick is renovating the garden of the headmaster Toby Teasdale, whose wife Celia is ready for a mild flirtation. She is flattered by Lionel's attention and allows herself to dream of a different life. She brings herself back to reality but Lionel has become smitten, so much so that he follows the couple on holiday, getting a job as a waiter at their hotel. The hilarious consequences that follow have the audience in stitches.

The play's success relies on the expertise of two actors, each playing two very different characters with quick-fire dialogue, split-second timing and speedy changes of costume. All these were magnificently accomplished by Richard Mainwaring, making his 23rd appearance at Eye, and Nicola Woollard, neither of whom puts a foot wrong. The play, directed by Tom Scott, runs until February 16.
