ISABEL COCKAYNE
World-renowned clarinettist Emma Johnson brought the house down last night when she played the Bury St Edmunds Festival for the first time.
The longer pieces of Schubert and Brahms were our introduction to the versatility of the clarinet, joined by piano accompanist John Lenehan.
Miss Johnson and Mr Lenehan were communicating constantly, providing a truly exquisite performance.
The climax was a wonderful arrangement of Gershwin tunes in tribute to jazz legend Benny Goodman, and that left Miss Johnson's ears ringing with applause.
