A special memorial concert by the Academy of St Thomas, a rare performance by the US-based Neave Trio, Berlin-based Kuss Quartet, Suffolk soprano Christina Johnston and the Albion Quartet will play in the region.

Popular soprano Christina Johnston, originally from Framlingham, returns to the region as part of her first UK tour to coincide with the release of debut album Blessing. The album consists of a mix of highly popular opera arias plus some rarities that are totally suited to her high coloratura voice. Christina has established an international reputation from her base in the Czech capital Prague, after moving there with her husband. It will be an evening of spectacular coloratura arias, the highest ever written pieces for voice by Mozart, Delibes and many more. She will be accompanied by the incredibly talented Russian coach, Inga Goldsmith who works with the likes of, Valeri Gergiev at the Marinski Theatre in St Petersburg.

Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society hold a free 'come-and-sing' workshop and performance of Mozart's Requiem in D minor. Keen singers will learn the piece in an immersive six hour workshop, and later perform together at a free concert in the evening. The workshop will conclude at 4pm. The concert will be held at 5pm the same day at St Peter's Parish Church in Sheringham. The north Norfolk based society secured a grant through the Tesco Bags of Help initiative, which has enabled them to hold the event completely free of charge. KUSS QUARTET

The Berlin-based Kuss Quartet are the latest to visit the Norweich Chamber Music series at the John Innes Centre. The two founder members, Jana Kuss and Oliver Wille (violin) have been travelling the same musical path for 25 years. Together with their colleagues William Coleman and Mikayel Hakhnazaryan, they are pioneers of a concept-based presentation of chamber music. They will play Beethoven's youthfully exuberant Quartet Op.18 No.3, György Kurtág Officium Breve and the last and largest of Schubert's string quartets.

The Pakefield Singers is an amateur choir based in Pakefield, near Lowestoft. They perform a handful of concerts a year across the region, both their themselves and in conjunction with other choirs and orchestras. Since its inception in 2002, they have held concerts at Kentwell Hall, Snape Maltings, Lowestoft's Marina Theatre, Pakefield Church, Blythburgh Church, Southwold St Edmund's, and Pontins at Pakefield. For their latest concert they will be performing Mendelssohn's oratorio 'Elijah' in Great Yarmouth Minster with soloists Jo Westaway, Diana Moore, Nick Allen and Njabulo Madlala, chorus and orchestra conducted by Vetta Wise.

Due to the sad death of Ivan Cane, the honorary life president and founder of Academy of St Thomas, this final concert of their 2017 season will now be given in memoriam with Christopher Adey conducting Elgar's Sospiri for strings and harp to open the concert as a tribute. The programme also includes the four movement Sinfonietta by Poulenc, which the AST recorded for their first CD in 2000, and the luscious romantic oboe concerto by Richard Strauss, being performed by John Anderson, one of the most recorded oboists in the world. The concert will conclude with Beethoven's Symphony No. 2.

This opening concert of the 2017/18 Chapel Series of the Norfolk & Norwich Music Club offers a rare opportunity to hear this US-based trio while they are in the UK to record their new album. Since forming in 2010, Neave Trio – violinist Anna Williams, cellist Mikhail Veselov, and pianist Eri Nakamura – has earned enormous praise for its engaging, cutting-edge performances. The performance includes the repertoire on their new album: Debussy's Piano Trio in G Major, Fauré's Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 120, and Roussel's Trio in E flat Major, Op. 2.

The newly formed Albion Quartet comprises four outstanding performers, violinists Tamsin Waley-Cohen and Emma Parker, viola Rosalind Ventris and cellist Nathaniel Boyd, with a wealth of experience in some of the UK's foremost ensembles between them (including the Badke and Navarra Quartets, and the London Bridge Trio). They have enjoyed numerous competition successes, including first prize winners of the Melbourne and Florence International Chamber Music Competitions. The programme includes Howard Skempton Moving On, Antonin Dvorak Quartet No.10, Op.51 'Slavonic' and Franz Schubert's Rosamunde Quartet.

Recital by mezzo soprano Anna Harvey accompanied by pianist Ian Tindale. Anna is a graduate of Cambridge and the R.A.M. praised for her rich tone and sensitive phrasing. She is Welsh National Opera Associate Artist. She performs internationally, in the UK and Germany most frequently. Ian Tindale graduated with a double first in 2011 from Selwyn College Cambridge where he read music and was Organ Scholar. He has performed with singers at venues across London, the UK and Europe. He has been on Radio 3 'In Tune' numerous times and recently on BBC2 Proms Extra.
