And in September, Norfolk audiences will have a rare opportunity to see the Grammy award-winning American music legend Dionne Warwick in concert when she plays King's Lynn Corn Exchange.

Born in New Jersey, Miss Warwick's first hit, Don't Make Me Over, was released in 1962.

She has worked with some of the industry's most famous musicians, including Burt Bacharach, who spotted her potential when she was working as a backing singer.

Miss Warwick has scored almost 60 chart hits - 30 of them collaborations with Bacharach and his song-writing partner Hal David.

Her best-known hits include Walk on By, I Say a Little Prayer and What the World Needs Now is Love.

She received her first Grammy Award in 1968 for Do You Know the Way to San Jose?

In recent years she has also undertaken charity work, including raising money for Aids research.

Corn Exchange spokesman Duncan Ashwell said it was a remarkable coup for the 700-capacity venue in Tuesday Market Place.

"It's one of just a handful of dates confirmed so far on her forthcoming UK tour and is a rare opportunity to see a musical legend in intimate concert-hall surroundings," he said.

Tickets for the show, on Tuesday September 6, are on sale now costing £34.
