Sci-fi monsters, a time lord, and their humanoid fans will invade the genteel streets of Holt at the weekend.

The Georgian town is gearing up for an intergalactic invasion of daleks and cybermen at a Dr Who festival on Sunday.

Enthusiasts from all over the country are expected to turn up for a day of events around the town's streets and shops.

The action begins with a 9.30am dalek trolley dash around the Budgens store, ahead of the 10am opening ceremony which will showcase former stars of the cult television series.

They include former doctor Colin Baker, an early assistant Deborah Watling, Terry Molloy who played Davros, creator of the daleks, and Peter Sowerbuts who was the Lord High Privy Councillor.

A series of attacks during the day include an assault on a tardis in Chapel Yard, and there is a 1pm parade around the town centre. At 2.15 the daleks will gather at the Albert Street car park for an attempt to get 58 of the monsters in one spot, to earn a place in the Guinness Book of World records.

Visitors are asked not to arrive before 9am on Sunday, while the town is setting up. There are overspill car parks at playing fields off the Norwich Road and Kelling Road, as well as Gresham's School off the Market Place, where parking is £5 a car.
