Veteran rockers Echo and the Bunnymen will be the star attraction at Halesworth's Gig in the Park this summer.

The three-day event, held in the Town Park, has its biggest budget yet this year and is expected to sell more tickets than ever before.

After a successful event last year, headlined by Suzi Quattro, organisers are confident of selling out on Saturday August 4, when Liverpudlians Echo and the Bunnymen are headlining. And the event is expected to be close to its 2,500 capacity on the Friday and Sunday nights.

Ska singer Neville Staple, formerly of the Specials, is headlining on Friday night, while the Blues Band will bring the event to a close.

Ezra Leverett, who is on the organising committee, said: “Echo and the Bunnymen are so well known, they encapsulate what Gig in the Park is all about. It is great that they want to play at what is a relatively small event.”

The event is run for the benefit of the community, and any profits are given to local charities and ploughed back into the following year's event.

Tickets for the August 3-5 event go on sale in June.
