Birds of a Feather star Pauline Quirke has revealed she and her co-stars have been enjoying their stay in the city this week so much they do a 'we love Norwich' dance at the end of their shows.

The Birds of a Feather team have been performing a stage adaptation of the popular BBC sitcom – about sisters Sharon Theodopolopoudos and Tracy Stubbs and their man-hungry neighbour Dorien Green – at Norwich Theatre Royal this week.

At a book signing event at WHSmith, in Gentleman's Walk, yesterday to promote her new book Where Have I Gone?, Pauline spoke of the great time she, and her co-stars Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph, have been having in Norwich.

'We have had the best week here. We have been touring 14 weeks now and the audiences in Norwich have been the best audiences we have had,' she said.

'We do a little dance when we come off stage, and now we do a 'we love Norwich' dance.'

'The audiences have just been fantastic.'

Pauline said she has been enjoying shopping in Jarrold, thinks the city's recently revamped Marks and Spencer store is 'lovely', and has been buying some Cromer crabs from Norwich Market. She said it was not the first time she has visited Norfolk.

'I met my husband Steve when I was 12 on the Broads,' she said, adding that her daughter's best friend also has links to the county.

Pauline's book Where Have I Gone? is about her slimming journey from the beginning of 2011 when she was almost 20 stone – it recounts the highs and lows of the rollercoaster year in which she whips herself, and her life, into shape, and she also throws in a few tales from her 40-year acting career.

At yesterday's book signing at WHSmith lots of people gathered to meet the Birds of a Feather star.

Among them was 53-year-old Barbara McGeachie, from Old Catton, who said she was a huge fan of Pauline and had gone to WHSmith at 10.30am yesterday to make sure she was first in the queue for the 12.30pm book signing.

'She is lovely. She is an inspiration,' Mrs McGeachie said, after getting her copy of Where Have I Gone? signed.

Like Pauline, Mrs McGeachie followed the LighterLife diet – when she started the diet in April last year she weighed 17 stone 10lb, and she reached her target weight of 10 stone 1lb in February this year. 'I feel amazing. I was a size 24 and now I am a size 12,' said Mrs McGeachie, who last night was also due to be watching the Birds of a Feather show at the Theatre Royal, and tonight is modelling in a fashion show at the LighterLife Norwich Charity Ball at Sprowston Manor Hotel.

Among the other people queuing to meet Pauline were Doreen and Peter Millen, from Hellesdon, and Doreen's sister Margaret Johnson, from Surrey and who was celebrating her 70th birthday yesterday.

They said they were all big Birds of a Feather fans and were also going to the stage show last night.

Bev Daniels, manager of the WHSmith store, said she was thrilled to have Pauline visit the store and that there had been a lot of interest from customers about Pauline's visit.
