The Cathedral of the Marshes will again play host to a high-quality night of musical treats on Saturday as the Beccles Chamber Orchestra brings a popular programme to the venue.

The Cathedral of the Marshes will again play host to a high-quality night of musical treats on Saturday as the Beccles Chamber Orchestra brings a popular programme to the venue.

Blythburgh Church hosts the musicians for a concert that includes Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, made famous as the music for the film 2001 - A Space Odyssey.

Suppe's Overture The Poet and Peasant, a thumping favourite, Mozart's glorious Concerto in A major for Clarinet, written for Anton Stadler and Dvorak's ever popular Ninth Symphony are also on the programme.

A special welcome will be given to the clarinet soloist, Sue Ives. Recently returned to her native Suffolk, she has been principal clarinet with the Welsh National Opera Company and then in London with the Philharmonia and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The occasion promises to be a feast of great music performed by outstanding musicians in a church famed for its acoustics and used by BBC and others for recordings. The concert at Blythburgh church begins at 7.30pm.

The orchestra will be under the baton of Christopher Gayford, an established conductor well known for his work with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Britten Sinfonia and Opera North.
