Time spent in the pulpit has helped a former preacher craft his comedy writing skills.

Retired Baptist minister Paul Rosier has penned the latest in a series of humorous books inspired by life in his native county.

The Barking Norfolk Notebook contains what Mr Rosier, from Cromer, calls a 'collection of the quirky, amusing and personal'.

The book is the fourth in the Barking series which has won fans from Great Yarmouth to King's Lynn.

Mr Rosier returned to Norfolk after serving 34 years as a Baptist minister in London and Buckinghamshire.

'When preaching you have to grab people's attention and connect with them and it is the same writing these books,' said Mr Rosier.

'Norfolk humour is simple, but profound, self-deprecating and punctures pomposity. It is prepared to take people down a peg or two but not in an unkind way.

'Part of Norfolk's joy is doing different, as this is not a place that you pass through on the way to somewhere else.'

He added: 'There are enough serious things in the world and I want the books to provide a little bit of light relief.

'The response from the public has been really good and readers are already asking when the next one is coming out.'

Money raised from The Barking Norfolk Notebook is being donated to children's bereavement charity Nelson's Journey.
