Hide your cash, bolt your doors and plug your ears - The Ladykillers are coming.

For their summer production, the Horstead-based Jubilee Players are presenting The Ladykillers by Graham Lineham, a stage adaptation of the 1950s Ealing black comedy film.

Mrs Wilberforce, an eccentric widow, (played by Gay Lloyd) lives alone with her raucous parrot General Gordon in a decidedly lopsided house close to King's Cross Station.

When she agrees to rent a room to a gang of criminal misfits posing as a group of amateur musicians, little does she know how she will become involved in their plot to steal huge sums of money as they pass through St Pancras.

Gang leader Professor Marcus (Neil Phillips) persuades Mrs Wilberforce to let them use her room, supposedly to practise their music, but unbeknown to her, it is really the planning centre for the robbery. The motley members of the gang arrive at the house and the fun and confusion begins, including some excruciating attempts at music making.

Despite the apparent ineptitude of some of the gang members, the robbery is successful, with Mrs Wilberforce unwittingly used to bring the money back to the house. The local police force are completely stumped as to where the money has gone and who perpetrated the daring and dastardly crime.

But as you might expect, things do not go smoothly for the gang and Mrs Wilberforce discovers what they are up to. The 'Professor' decides that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. Will Mrs Wilberforce be able to stand up to the five desperate men and who will finally face the music?

Other cast members are Graham Brakenbury as Major Courtney, Paul Skippings as Louis Harvey, Ray Tempesta as Harry Robinson, Steve Penwill as One Round Lawson and Neil Sumpser Lupson as Constable McDonald.

The classic comedy caper is at the Tithe Barn in Horstead from Wednesday June 25 to Friday June 27 at 7.30pm.
