The schools are out and you're looking to keep the children entertained — but what if it isn't suitable for fun outdoors? SIMON PARKIN picks some events and activities that the weather cannot spoil.

• A Viking's Guide to Deadly Dragons

As part of the exhibition inspired by Cressida Cowell's best-selling children's books How to Train Your Dragon, numerous events this half-term. Help artist Kate Munro breathe life into the Castle's dragon (Feb 13/20, 10am-4pm). Make your own dragon wings and Viking helmets (Feb 13/15/20, 10.30am-3.30pm). Get flighty with the RSPB as we explore the dragonfly family (Feb 15, 10am-4pm). Neil Paris brings Hiccup Horrendous Haddock to life in a fun performance (Feb 16-18, 1pm/2pm/3pm).

• Nursery Rhyme I-Spy

• Teddy Bear Express

Join the Bure Valley Railway mascot bear for a week of fun. There is free travel for every child when accompanied by a fare-paying adult (max 2 children per adult). There is also a children's competition to see how many teddy bears can be spotted on the journey. Don't forget your own teddy so Railway Bear is not lonely!

• Art Week

Get arty at Whitlingham with a series of half-term workshops drawing and/or painting wildlife and nature around the country park. February 15 (2pm-4pm) is aimed at young people who have an interest in art between the ages of 16-25. On February 19 (2pm-4pm) is a 'drop-in' session aimed at families. And on February 20, everybody's artwork by hosting an exhibition in the Barn at the park.

• Family Fun

Each day Euan and Harold of The Fools Puppet Theatre Companie will be staging three enchanting shows. Take a guided tour behind the scenes and see a range of fascinating objects including the tusk of the West Runton Mammoth. Experience what lessons were like 100 years ago in the Victorian schoolroom. See what is cooking in Cherry Tree Cottage and see if you can help find the missing Gingerbread Man.

• Scooby's Street School

Two days of holiday dance fun for 7-11 year olds at The Garage with legendary tutor Scooby. You will be put through your paces, play games and dance. Plus participants will learn one of Scooby's routines to perform to an audience of family at the end of the second day.

Far-Eastern inspired Kids' Club workshops including arts and crafts, Kung Fu adventure interactive story-telling, noodle challenges and more.

• Marvellous Models
