Young stars given a chance to shine as King’s Lynn Town prepare to welcome Stamford for League Cup clash
King's Lynn Town fans will be given a glimpse into the future tonight when Gary Setchell bloods some of the club's highly-rated youngsters in the League Cup.
The Linnets welcome Stamford to The Walks for this evening's first round clash and are set to make a host of changes to the side that lost 2-1 at home to Belper Town on Saturday.
With injuries and impending suspensions affecting Setchell's men the Lynn boss admits he has to take the opportunity to look at some of the stars of tomorrow, as well as giving valuable playing time to his squad players.
Reserve-team starlets Jack Johnson, Tom McLeish, Chris Ward, Luis Duarte, Luke Biles and Shaun Stocker – who has recently been on trial at Peterborough United – are just six players likely to get their chance to shine as Lynn take a break from league and FA Trophy action.
Setchell said: 'With the league the reserves play in I don't get chance to cast an eye over the young lads as much as I'd like.

'They've done well for Joff (Jonathan Hawes, reserve team boss) and he believes some of the boys have got a good chance in terms of progressing with the club. Tonight is a good chance to have a look at them in a match against a very good side.
'It's not all about the result. We want to win the game but three things matter. One; getting a look at the youngsters, two; getting rest into players before Saturday's game at Worksop in the Trophy and three; getting the players who haven't been playing 90 minutes.'

First-teamers Danny Gay, Ross Watson, Phil Gulliver, Ryan Fryatt, Jordan Yong, Steve Spriggs, Richard Bunting, Dan Quigley and Russell Dunkly are unlikely to start. Injured duo Danny Beaumont and Sam Mulready will also not feature.
And even if Lynn win this evening, Setchell insists he will not change tact for future rounds - however far his team get in the competition.
The Lynn boss said: 'It's all about the bigger picture. We want to win every game but we will use youngsters in the League Cup. We could face some long away trips if we get through so the players we use in the early rounds I will keep picking as long as we're in the competition.
'I don't expect the young lads to go out there and absolutely rip it up but sometimes they can go in and surprise you. It'll be a great experience for all of the young lads to play for the first team. The competition is a great chance to blood the youngsters and get minutes into players who need them.'
Tickets for tonight's match will cost adults 8, rather than the usual 10. Concessions will have to pay 6, children aged 12-16 3, while youngsters aged 11 and under can get in for free.
