Norfolk's perennial Potters favourite Mervyn King is back bidding for further world championships glory tonight when he and Simon Skelton face the 20-year-old Rees twins, Gareth and Gavin.
But defending world singles champion Andy Thomson believes the next local hero at Hopton could be one of King's former clubmates at the Gallow club in Fakenham, Jamie Chestney.
Chestney, 25, who recently moved to Devon to be with his girlfriend, has become a mainstay of Thomson's England team – and his captain has no doubts he can become the second Norfolk world champion.
'There is a chap from Norfolk who I think is extremely talented and who I think has the potential to win this tournament,' said Thomson.
'I think he's ready now. I've played with Jamie many times in the England team and he's definitely talented enough to win it. He's just got to believe in himself that he can win it. If I was his manager I'd be getting his mind in a better frame but he's certainly got the talent.'
