With Bullington Bandit tackling Newmarket's Superlative Stakes on Saturday and Kaspersky lining up in the Summer Mile at Ascot on the same day, Avenue Des Champs gave the yard a boost with victory in the 188bet.co.uk Handicap.

Despite being all out at the line, the son of Champs Elysees held favourite Saved By The Bell by half a length to supplement the victory of stablemate Uber Cool at Catterick earlier in the day and initiate a brace for winning rider Josephine Gordon.

Chapple-Hyam said: 'That is an across-the-card double as the other one won at Catterick. It is nice to be going into these Group Two races with winners and it would be nice if it could be a Group race double on Saturday.'

After several near misses, the Hugo Palmer-trained Cool Team finally hit the target at the fifth time of asking when completing Gordon's double in the Read Silvestre de Sousa At 188Bet Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

George Boughey, assistant trainer, said of the 6-4 winner: 'It's good to get that monkey off his back. He has bumped into a few useful ones and hopefully he can progress now.

'He was a bit unbalanced at Goodwood and this easier track was to his liking. I think he will get further than a mile in time.'

Luck can play a significant part in the outcome of races and David Probert found it on his side as the gaps opened up for Rotherwick (15-2) in the feature 188Bet Handicap.

Probert said of the Paul Cole-trained winner: 'He travelled very nicely on the inside and I felt there was no point switching him out. The splits came at the right time, as did the line. He has been fairly consistent this year. He is quite a likeable sort and is very genuine.'

Turning Gold (4-7) continued his recent revival after following up his win at the track last week with an effortless eight-length victory in the Open Golf Betting At 188Bet Handicap over a mile.

William Butler, assistant to winning trainer Sir Mark Prescott, said: 'Everybody had given up on him last year, but the owners (Helen and Chris Jones) were so keen to keep him.

'He was in the sales at Tattersalls this week up until last week. He has got entries next week at Chepstow and Carlisle.

'This is the first horse the owners have had in their colours and they are embracing every bit of it.'

Danny Tudhope can now boast a winner at the Norfolk track on his CV after steering the David O'Meara-trained Chatburn to glory by a neck in the Best Odds Guaranteed At 188Bet Novice Auction Stakes.

Tudhope said of the 4-6 winner: 'I don't come here very often and I've not been here in a good few years.

'I had him nice and handy and he just held on. He has done well and is going the right way.'

The Michael Bell-trained Three Duchesses (7-1) showed a decisive turn of foot to claim a comfortable six-length success in the Ticket Giveaways At 188Bet Fillies' Handicap, while Daring Guest (7-2) from the yard of George Margarson took the concluding Daily Racing Specials AT 188Bet Handicap by a head.
