Great Yarmouth Town boss Mike Derbyshire was grateful for a home draw after the Bloaters pulled Hanwell out of the hat for the second round proper of the FA Vase.

Mitch Forbes' goal gave Yarmouth a memorable victory over Gorleston on Saturday and their reward is a tie against the London-based outfit who play in the Spartan South Midlands Football League Premier Division – one step above Derbyshire's men.

Hanwell look to be a tough proposition having lost just one of their opening 12 league games so far this season. However, Derbyshire hopes his side can take confidence from causing an upset in the previous round.

'It's a home draw and we couldn't really have asked for more than that - a good home draw is perfect for us,' he said. 'We don't know too much about them at this stage but it looks like they're going well in their league so it will be a difficult one.

'But we were the underdogs going in against Gorleston so who knows?'

While Derbyshire was delighted to gain bragging rights over their rivals in the Vase he insists the league remains the priority.

'The Vase is very important although our major focus is getting in one of those top three places at the top of the league,' he said. 'That has to be our priority because we want to be playing our football in the Premier Division.

'If we can get that then you're playing against bigger rivals and hopefully getting bigger crowds.

'But the FA Vase is a big deal to us. It brings in prize money which is always important for a club our size and hopefully the tie will generate a good crowd for us.

'The club made the semi-final in 1983 so to go on a journey like that would be amazing.'

Derbyshire has brought the Bloaters a long way from the club that so nearly went out of business two seasons ago.

After a year of consolidation in the First Division last year, Derbyshire feels his men are ready to mount a proper promotion challenge.

'When I came in my focus was to try and keep us in the Premier Division unfortunately it wasn't to be,' he said. 'We had had a year of consolidation last season with a lot of young lads getting games. But this season promotion is the goal for us – the youngsters have had a year's experience and we've managed to add to the squad as well.'

If Swaffham can overcome Hullbridge Sports in their first round replay this evening, (kick-off 7.45pm) they will entertain Berkhamstead in the next round. Norwich United travel to Enfield 1893.

The second round ties will be played on Saturday, November 16.
