Wymondham moved seven points clear in Division One after a comfortable win in this top versus bottom encounter.

Things did not start well for the hosts when they went down to 14 men almost straight away for what was adjudged a dangerous tackle. Thurston failed to convert the penalty but James Wyatt then converted at the other end to give Wymondham a 3-0 lead.

Thurston were striving to make the extra man count and, despite being stopped in their tracks by Neumi Rokodonin, recycled the ball well and scored a converted try.

When back up to 15 Wymondham started running at the Thurston defence and from a line-out Matt Ambrose, Dave Blake and Chris Miller drove for the line and Dane Canning scored a good forwards try in the corner to make it 8-7.

From another line-out charges by Dave Martin, Tom Wilson, Dave Blake and finally Andy Mackay allowed Steve Simms to put Onisimo Sagakalele through for a neat try under the posts, converted by Wyatt.

Not long after this winger Dave Martin took off on a strong run which saw him burst through and only a desperate tackle stopped him from finishing the move off himself. But Mackay was in support to take the pass and score a converted try.

Thurston converted a penalty to make the score 22-10 at the break.

Early in the second half Matt Ambrose took a quick penalty, placing the Thurston defence on the back foot, and the ball went through to Simms who delivered a reverse, back-handed inside pass to Alex Brugger who stormed through to score in the corner.

Mackay seemed to be everywhere and with Josh Wright and Henry Petch Wymondham's back row were commanding the loose. This was rewarded when Wright crashed over for a converted try to make it 34-10.

Ambrose got in on the scoring act soon after which followed good work by the centres Andy Ferns and Wilson. This was also converted.

Wymondham found themselves down to 14 men but, from a deep scrum, Simms was able to feed Brugger in space and he outstripped the defence to score another good try, converted by Wyatt.

When they were back up to 15 men, another great scrum from the home pack let Wyatt give Simms good ball and the perfect line was run by Sagakalele to score a well worked try which was converted.

It was successful weekend with closest rivals Ipswich WM losing at home, the seconds winning 43-5 against West Norfolk II and the Under 10's achieved a fine win over Nottingham Paviours at Leicester in the Prima Cup semi-final.
