Wymondham went into this Norfolk derby match determined to add to their five-match unbeaten run in front of a large and partisan crowd.

Wymondham were quickly out of the blocks with James Wyatt slotting over an early penalty.

With 10 minutes gone the home forwards took the ball on from a line-out and then slipped it to scrum-half Wyatt who wriggled his way through to score the first try, which he narrowly failed to convert.

Eventually the Red and Blacks managed to break through the West defence again as excellent linking by captain Josh Wright saw him fly over the line for the second try. Unfortunately Wright received an injury after scoring and was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with severe bruising to his kidneys. The try was unconverted, leaving the score at 13-3 to Wymondham.

While Wright was still receiving treatment play restarted and West Norfolk breached their defence and score an unconverted try.

From the re-start, the home side reorganised, with Henry Petch replacing Wright, and again attacked the West line, forcing them to concede a penalty in front of the posts which was duly converted.

Wymondham now had their tails up and it was no surprise when, after a scrum deep in the opposition half, the ball was shipped to strong running centre Tom Wilson who crashed through the West defence.

With half-time approaching, Wymondham were determined to press home their advantage and an excellent backs move saw classy full-back Simo join the back line and glide over the line for the fourth try to secure a bonus point. The conversion left Wymondham ahead by 30-8 at the break.

Wyatt opted to have a shot at goal from a few yards past the halfway line and duly struck the ball between the posts to give Wymondham first blood in the second half. West then began to use their weight advantage and from a line-out their pack set up a rolling maul which carried them over for an unconverted try to make the score 33-13 to the hosts.

The home crowd did not have to wait long for the next score with excellent running and handling from Steve Simms and Nick Ferns putting Simo in to make up his brace. Simms slotted the conversion, having taken over kicking duties from Wyatt, who was replaced by Harry Brown at scrum-half.

Halfway through the second half West set up the rolling maul but splendid work from Matt Ambrose denied the score, although West Norfolk capitalised on the pressure when their big No 8 bulldozed over for a try which they duly converted to take the score to 40-20.

As the match entered its final phase young Petch took the ball 10 metres out and left the West defence in disarray as he tore through to score a try which was duly converted.

West's tries were scored by Alex Singleton, Joe Butt and Tui Ulaiasi with Butt kicking the rest of their points.
