Wymondham slotted over a late penalty to pick up a bonus point from their opening London 3NE game of the season – but it could easily have been more.

A push-over try from the home side went unspotted in the first half while a wayward pass from Tom Wilson gifted Newmarket a breakaway try and seven points.

Wymondham's only try was scored by Steve Simms, converted by Wilson, while their other points all came from penalties, with James Wyatt kicking two and Wilson slotting the other one over.

Overall the hosts were a little rusty but on another day could have emerged with a victory.

They will now be looking to get their season up and running when they visit Newmarket on Saturday.
