New recruit Jamie Thurlbourne is relishing the chance to play a part in Wisbech Town's bid to win the United Counties League Premier Division title.

Boss Gary Setchell has drafted in the left-sided player from Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Newmarket Town.

Thurlbourne previously played under the Fenmen chief at King's Lynn Town and this will also be his second spell with Wisbech, having been at the club during the part of the 2008-09 season.

The new arrival will be available for selection when Wisbech travel to Harborough Town on Saturday and he has his sights set on silverware.

'I can't wait to pull that shirt on again,' Thurlbourne, a title-winner at this level with Spalding United in the past, told the Wisbech Standard.

'Wisbech are a great club and they are flying at the moment so it is a good time to be joining them.

'I want to play a part in winning the title and it is great to come into a side playing so well and sitting second in the league.

'I have played for 'Setch' before and that was a big part in my decision to sign. He is one of the best managers I have worked with.

'With the team doing so well and Gary being in charge it was a really easy decision to come back to the club. I know a few of the lads in the dressing room too. They are a great bunch and hopefully we can win the title together.'

Wisbech picked up a precious point last Saturday when snatching a 2-2 at title rivals Newport Pagnell.

They took an early lead through Dan Bendon, but were pegged back midway through the first half by Greg Ling.

The sides then traded late goals as Fazel Koriya put Pagnell ahead before Alex Beck replied with a well-timed 30th goal of the season when forcing in a Billy Smith corner.

Wisbech boss Setchell said: 'It is a big point for us. To have taken four points from our last two games - with Yaxley and Pagnell - leaves us right in the mix.

'There is a still a long way to go, I am not getting carried away; every time someone drops points it changes things at the top of the table.

'We need to take each game as it comes and get as many points on the board as we can.'

Wisbech remain second in the Premier Division, three points behind leaders Yaxley, but with three matches in hand. Holbeach and Pagnell are a point further back with fifth-placed Deeping also still live contenders for the title.
