West Norfolk will be aiming to blow away their rugby cobwebs when they host Ely in a key Greene King Eastern Counties Division One clash.

The league's second placed team, who play in North Wootton, haven't played a competive fixture since December 14 after their trip to Ipswich YM on Saturday fell foul of the weather.

And they'll have to hit the ground running tomorrow when they face the team directly behind them in the table at Gatehouse Lane.

Boss Nigel Richardson said: 'We haven't played in the league since pre-Christmas with our cup (Junior Vase) game also being called off before our game at Ipswich was at the weekend. 'Some of the lads played in our festive game on Boxing Day and a midweek charity game before that while some of the guys had a run out for our vets. But in general we've had no real game time, which isn't ideal.

'The boys have been training quite hard and we've still been getting decent numbers ahead of the weekend. Every game is an important game this season and although Ely are sitting just behind us there are no easy games in this league. There are no gimmes.

'At the moment every game is tough and we've got some difficult matches coming up so we are taking it one game at a time.'

West edged a tight encounter at the city club's home 15-8 earlier this term to keep up hopes they could pip Ely and Newmarket to a title triumph.

However, injury doubts remain over Paul Denton (hamstring) and Joe Butt (elbow) while Alex Singleton (knee) will definitely miss out in a blow to Richardon's resources.

'We were all a bit disappointed the game at Ipswich was called off, getting a postponement in rugby is quite rare,' said Richardson.

'The lads were all champing at the bit and raring to go as our Christmas break was over. They just wanted to get back to rugby. It's frustrating really as we've got quite a bit of strength in depth but these things happen. You can't do anything about the weather.'

One side who did beat the wet conditions at the weekend was Swaffham. They beat basement boys Broadland-Great Yarmouth 25-7 to move up to fourth in the table.

The in-form outfit, who were promoted in the summer, will look to keep up their fine form when they visit struggling Harwich & Dovercourt.
