The best individual performance came from Wesley Matsuka-Williams in the senior boys triple jump.

In spite of the cool, breezy conditions he jumped 15m 20. Not only was it a new record but a performance that places him at the top of the national under 20 rankings – an international call up surely beckons.

Don Baker, a youth international last year, threw the senior javelin out to 52m 84.

Serena Grace had a fine under 17 sprint double, winning the 100m in 12.4 seconds and the 200m in 25.5 seconds.

In the under 17 girls hammer event Lucy Koenigsberger set a new record with a fine throw of 51m 49. For the for first time electronic distance measuring (EDM) was in use at the championships.

Alfie Williams continued his good indoor form with a 13m 97 throw in the shot. One of the best performances came from Cameron Try in the under 15 boys discus with a throw of 39m 08.

There were some very good middle distance races.

In a keenly fought under 17 1500m Jessica Norkett won in four minutes 49.7 seconds ahead of Megan Gadsby four minutes 51.2 seconds.

In the under 15 1500m Hattie Reynolds ran well to win in four minutes 48 seconds to follow on from her very good cross country form.

Madeleine Short had a very good run in the under 15 girls 800m winning in two minutes 19.9 seconds.

Another competitive event was the under 15 girls' long jump won by Megan Willis with a distance of 5m 22. Eleanor Brown triple jumped 10m 83, another good performance.

Athletes will have another chance to achieve English Schools qualifying performances in the prestigious Anglian Schools Championships at the Sportspark next week if the event takes place. It could be in doubt if there are not enough qualified officials available and is not the first time that several meetings have clashed.
