Lynn boss Gary Setchell insisted his players got the rewards they deserved for putting their bodies on the line to end Coalville's unbeaten start to the season on Tuesday.

Goals from Steve Spriggs and Jason Turner inside 12 minutes capped Lynn's electric start to the game as the second-placed Walks outfit threatened to run riot in the top-of-the-table clash.

But the Evo-Stik Division One South league leaders soon replied through in-form Ryan Robbins and were right in the game until Spriggs netted his second, and Lynn's third, in the closing stages.

Setchell hailed the fighting spirit and bravery of his side as they notched up their sixth win on the bounce in front of a bumper crowd of 1,123.

'It was a blood and thunder game and I feel in recent years it was a game we'd have definitely lost,' said the Lynn boss.

'We'd have been over-run, outpowered and bullied – but no one is going to bully this set of players. We're big strong men and Spriggsy, who's not such a big man, can produce bits of magic like he did.

'He's scored nine goals from the right-hand side of midfield, which is a phenomenal feat considering people questioned whether he could play at Step Four. I said to Neil (Fryatt, assistant) with 15 minutes to go, 'they're going to score or we're going to hit them on the break'.

'It had that feel about it. We were putting bodies on the line, putting blocks in and people were putting their heads in where some people wouldn't put their feet.

'But we looked like, with the pace out wide, that we could get at them and it was a great second goal by Spriggs.'

Lynn sit three points behind the Ravens, having played one game fewer, ahead of their trips to Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday and Rainworth Miners Welfare on Tuesday.

After the midweek win, Stuart Wall aside, Setchell has no injury concerns going into the two away matches, which the Lynn boss admitted they won't be taking for granted.

'We've laid down a 'we're a good side marker' on Tuesday,' said the Linnets manager when asked if his team had handed out a title warning.

'On the balance of play, Coalville passed the ball very well and we had to switch our system to go and match them to go three in midfield because after we went 2-0 up they sort of bossed the game.

'But if you're talking about effort and desire and wanting to win the match then you look no further than our boys again. It got us through.

'Coalville are a very good side, they'll be there or thereabouts, but we had another special night. That's three what I consider very, very good performances at home and we have got to take it on the road now for two games and try and get points. We're not going to get carried away.'
