King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell believes his players deserved their injury-time equaliser which kept them in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Linnets were heading out of the competition at Daventry Town until Jason Turner stepped up and smashed home a penalty three minutes into stoppage time.

While Setchell was unhappy with the way his outfit switched off to allow Scott Cross to score a 61st-minute opener for the hosts, he was full of praise for their never-say-attitude which saw them snatch a replay at the death.

'We wouldn't have deserved to have gone out of the FA Cup,' said the Lynn boss.

'I'm the first one to say, like when Sheffield did against us, that we've been outplayed. But we were weren't. However, if players don't concentrate for 90 minutes we end up conceding goals.

'We lost concentration on a set piece again and I know we had Quigz (Quigley) and Dunks (Dunkley) missing who are a big part of our defensive set pieces but the lads have got to do their jobs.

'To concede a goal with 30 minutes to go when they'd barely registered a shot on goal was very disappointing. I made changes, we threw the kitchen sink at it, and I had to put Dunks (Dunkley) on with 10 minutes to go. To be fair to the boy he won us the penalty. I know it gets boring because I keep saying it but these lads just don't know when they're beat.'

Jamie Forshaw spurned a golden opportunity inside 60 seconds to put his side in front while Steve Spriggs and Danny Beaumont also missed excellent chances to seal their side's place in the next round.

After bossing the game territorially for the best part of an hour and looking set for their third success blank in front of goal, Setchell insists he's not concerned by his team's perceived lack of ruthlessness.

He said: 'Again we missed two or three decent chances but I'll start worrying when we stop creating chances. We've got enough creativity in our side to keep digging out chances.

'We don't concede many goals, we're solid at the back, and those that we do concede are our own doing. It was a good result for us. Daventry are top-six in the Evo-Stik (Southern Division One Central). It wasn't a given we should go there and win the game because we're King's Lynn.

'Daventry are a very good side and they're Step Four hardened. And again we've showed we deserve to be at this level. We're delighted to be in the hat for the draw.'

The Linnets will find out this afternoon who they will play in the next round – if they beat Daventry in Tuesday night's replay at The Walks.

Setchell hopes defender Jordan Yong, who came off with an injury at the weekend, will be fit for the match. Jason Lee, who the Lynn boss said had an 'outstanding debut' at his former club is likely to keep his place. Midfielder Dan Quigley returns after completing his suspension.
