Gary Setchell pulled no punches after his wasteful side crashed out of the FA Cup on Tuesday.

The Lynn boss was furious with his side's inability to convert the hatful of chances they created on a night where their two goals came courtesy of Daventry centre-back Guy Sanders.

Phil Gulliver did find the net for the Linnets – who racked up their fourth game without scoring in open play – but unfortunately it was in his own net as his 100th minute strike settled a bizarre first qualifying round replay.

An irate Setchell said: 'We do the stats. We had 28 attempts on goal, put 28 crosses in from wide areas and had 13 corners. And we failed to score a goal ourselves.

'The most important areas of the pitch are both boxes. And we get done in ours and we're not clinical enough in theirs. Everything else in between is fine at the moment.

'We can't keep squandering chances. The lads work hard to create them and 28 attempts on goal is probably three games worth at any level.

'We're hitting goalkeepers, we're hitting woodwork, we're backpassing it to the keeper and it's not good enough at this level. I know that, everyone in the ground knew that and it's really disappointing.

'We work on our finishing and they're flying in during training but then you put them on the pitch and they can't hit a barn door.'

Danny Beaumont and striker Jason Turner – who endured his second horror night in front of goal at The Walks in a row – both struck the woodwork for the Linnets who should have sealed their place in the next round before the drama even started.

Mykel Beckley's 57th-minute strike put Daventry in front before Sanders' incredible own-goal brace had looked set to gift Lynn a passage into the next round. However, Jamie Gould's injury-time penalty – like Turner's spot-kick equaliser during Saturday's 1-1 draw - forced an extra 30 minutes, where Lynn's cup dream eventually died.

Setchell said: 'When Danny Beaumont hit the bar in the first few minutes you think 'oh no not again' and unfortunately it was not again.

'When there's seven or eight players creating chances for four or five other players you expect them to take them. If someone makes a mistake for a goal they get slaughtered but it's not different to a striker missing the goal.

'I'm not slaughtering anybody but I'm just telling bare facts.

'You cannot, at this level, miss gilt-edged chances and concede a sloppy goal.

'They've done a smash and grab on us and I wish them all the best. There isn't loads of mileage in the FA Cup but it's worrying that it (missing chances) happened last Tuesday (v Carlton) and again. We've got to put it right.

'Does Russell Dunkley (injured) make that much difference to us? Well obviously he does at the moment.'

Setchell wants his side to pick up three points at Lincoln United tomorrow and put in an improved display, in front of goal, at home to Brigg Town on Tuesday.
