Horsford's Carl Waller-Barrett has won the European Championship for national hot rods for the second year in a row.

Waller-Barrett came out on top at Lochgelly raceway in Scotland, becoming only the fifth person in the last 50 years to win the European championship back to back.

'It's one of the biggest races to win in oval racing and had 35 top drivers from all over the UK Ireland and the rest of Europe,' said a delighted Waller-Barrett.

'They run three qualifying heats in which each driver competes in two of the races to determine the championship grid from points scored through the races. I qualified third by getting an 11th and a win in my heats.

'There were 45 laps in the championship race and after running second for 12 laps I managed to get into the lead. I was then chased hard for the rest of the race by Kym Weaver but he never got close enough to challenge for the lead.'
