Former King's Lynn and Lowestoft Town striker Jack Defty is hanging up his boots.

Nearly two years after breaking his leg whilst playing for the Trawlerboys, Defty has called it a day, bringing an end to an illustrious career in the lower leagues.

The 33-year-old, who helped the Linnets win league titles in 2004 and 2008 before starring for Lowestoft, broke his tibia towards the end of the 2012/13 season and hasn't been able to recover to take to the field since.

'I've got to admit I've got no plans to come back,' said the burly striker. 'You never say never but from where I am at the moment it would take a massive effort for me to get back to where I was before.

'Part of me wants to do it but on the other hand I don't want to walk with a limp for the rest of my life.'

Defty insisted the decision had not been taken lightly but had to put his long-term health first.

'As much as I would like to get back, I've been taking it slowly myself and I'm at the stage of my career where it's difficult to get back to the level that you're used to.

'Everything needs building back up and it would be a very long road to get back to where I was before.'
