King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell is keeping his feet on the ground after his side notched up their third consecutive league win at Mickleover Sports.

Two goals from Steve Spriggs and a wonder 45-yard strike from defender Ross Watson clinched the Linnets' deserved 3-1 victory in Derbyshire on Saturday. The triumph leaves Lynn second in the Evo-Stik Division One South table but Setchell is refusing to get carried away by his charges' fine start to life at Step Four of the non-league ladder.

'I thought we were good value for the win and we're looking like a decent Step Four side,' said Setchell.

'We're playing alright. We're looking like a team that's tough to beat and we're working our socks off. We have also got players in the team that can undo any side at this level so we're going in the right direction.

'We're not getting carried away though. We're enjoying our football, we're enjoying this level and obviously the league table then looks after itself.

'We haven't had flukey results, we are a decent team, and we do feel going into every game we have a chance of competing in every game.'

Spriggs scored one penalty and missed another - before turning home the rebound - to put The Walks outfit 2-1 ahead at the break.

But it was Watson's sensational effort, from just inside Sports' half, which left Lynn's travelling support, and Setchell, purring long after another three points had been wrapped up.

Setchell said: 'Ross definitely meant it. I've still been ribbing him about the one against PNS last season where he crossed it and it went in, but I'll give him this one.

'He looked up, had a touch, and it was a great finish. We deserve these special moments though because every player is giving 110pc. For their goal, whether it was a penalty or not, their lad was two yards offside as the ball was played through and I was dead in line with it.

'So that was disappointing because I felt we deserved a clean sheet and didn't get it.'

Returning keeper Danny Gay, despite giving away the spot-kick after hauling down Jermaine Palmer, looked impressive on his first appearance in a Lynn shirt for about three years.

Setchell joked his vocal number one, who replaced Alex Street in goal, made an impression on his new team-mates but admitted he may have to bring in a short-term keeper for Saturday's FA Trophy clash at home to Barwell.

The Lynn boss said of Gay: 'He's already doing their (the lads) heads in apparently. They're going to wear iPods on Saturday because he just keeps going on and on.

'But that's what I brought him here for because he's a big presence and he's a big character and he's another piece of the jigsaw to get us in and around the top of the table at the end of the season. I had a meeting with Alex on Friday and he's going to have a week off to consider his future and where he wants to go. I've given him all my options and I'd like him to play for us (against Barwell) because I think he deserves to play. Hopefully he will make that decision but I do have a Plan B.

'If he decides not to I'll have to get someone in on loan. Jack Johnson (reserve team keeper) is suspended, Jonas Sarycevas is unavailable and Danny (Gay) is cup-tied. Either way we'll definitely have a goalkeeper next week.'

One player who should be available is fit-again Russell Dunkley. He lasted 83 minutes on his full return from a calf injury and was only substituted due to fatigue.

The Lynn boss said: 'Russell had it. He burnt himself out. He worked hard up there on his own and he did a great job but after 75 minutes he was blowing.

'He wasn't injured, he just had some knocks and bruises, as he'd been beat up all afternoon. Their centre-backs worked him over a little bit but he gives as good as he gets and that's the type of the lad he is.'
