Hat-trick hero Dan Quigley helped Lynn keep up their 100pc league record in 2013 at The Walks this afternoon.

Andy Nicholls' lucky opener had seen the Linnets go in behind at the break. But Quigley struck three times in the second half to make sure it's now 21 points the never-say-die Linnets have picked up from losing positions this season.

A late goal from Jay Burgess failed to take the shine off another triumph for the hosts who are now unbeaten in seven league matches going into the back end of the season.

Top-five chasing Lynn went into the game in a fine run of form having won all of their Evo-Stik Division One South games so far this year.

But Gary Setchell showed he wasn't willing to rest on his laurels by bringing long-term target James Jepson and former loanee Sam Mulready into the club this week.

The former made his debut, in place of Danny White who was released last night, while teenage frontman Mulready had to make do with a place on the bench.

With Ross Watson overcoming the back problem which saw him substituted during last weekend's 2-1 win at Gresley, the Lynn boss named 10 of the same starting 11 who had delivered the goods in Derbyshire last week.

Newcastle arrived from Staffordshire in 16th but were looking, like struggling Hucknall Town earlier this term, to cause an upset on their visit to Norfolk.

However, it was the in-form hosts who made a brighter start with former Gresley playmaker Jepson seeing plenty of the ball from a left-sided midfield position. He went close with a free-kick, as did Shane Tolley with an effort of his own in open play, but the latter was ruled out for offside anyway.

Castle eked out their first chances but Danny Gay saved a well-hit Kyle Diskin free-kick before Jason Lee's fine header in his own six-yard box, and a block from Jordan Yong – which the visitors' claimed had hit his arm – denied Town's next forays into Lynn's territory.

After a shaky start, of sorts, the men in white had started to find their feet. And they took a fortuitous lead when Diskin's cross was headed goalwards by Nathan Sutton only for it to strike Nicholls, wrong-foot Gay, and roll into the net.

Bar Yong's acrobatic overhead kick going close, before the ref pulled him up for dangerous play, that was about it for goalmouth action for much of the rest of the half.

The Linnets huffed and puffed but the opening goal had given Town hope and they were making life much more difficult than they had been earlier in the match. Quigley tried to force his way through, following a fine one-two with Russell Dunkley, but he was stopped by a handful of defenders, and 'keeper Dave Parton. Dunkley then headed over a Jepson corner.

Had it not been for Gay's intervention at the other end, the Linnets could have gone in 2-0 down at the break. Setchell's number one got fingertips to Sutton's diving header to leave Lynn behind – not the first time this season – at the end of the first 45 minutes.

Not for the first time, a half-time pep talk inspired the Linnets to get themselves back in the game. This time, it only took 23 seconds for Setchell's high-fliers to draw level.

Dunkley's excellent hold up play allowed Steve Spriggs to break clear down the left and his cross was thumped home on the volley at the back post by Quigley. Game on.

It was nearly two almost 10 minutes later but George Thomson's teasing cross just evaded both Dunkley and Tolley who came steaming in at the back post. Lynn had their tails up.

A double-change saw Danny Beaumont and Mulready replace Spriggs and Tolley as the Linnets pressed for that elusive second. And they could have found it had Beaumont not hacked at fresh air when presented with an opening following good work from his fellow second-half substitute.

Thomson then saw a curling free-kick comfortably saved as the hosts upped the ante. Could they complete another comeback triumph?

And they looked to have done just that when the ever-increasing fans' favourite Quigley drilled home his second from the edge of the box to put Lynn 2-1 in front. And he capped off a great performance by slotting home from the penalty spot, after Dunkley had been fouled by Matt Lowe, to complete his treble.

Tom France nearly grabbed a late consolation for Castle but his long-range effort crashed back of Gay's crossbar. Substitute Burgess went one better when he headed home Ricky Bridge's cross to leave the Linnets facing a nervy final few minutes - which in all fairness they saw out pretty comfortably to extend their unbeaten spell.
