Striker Tom James wrote his name into Fenmen folklore as his penalty kept Wisbech Town's Wembley dream alive on Saturday.

The 20-year-old scored for the fourth consecutive round to make it 2-1 at Hadleigh United and help Town reach the FA Vase quarter-finals for the first time in 24 years. And it sealed a fond farewell for the frontman who was playing his last game for the club before moving to Australia to take up a coaching job.

James, who has scored seven of his side's 11 goals in this term's competition, said: 'I popped up at the right time, that's what the best players do. I signed off on a good note. I don't miss penalties. It was a big game.

'I'm a bit gutted I'm going, I want to stay, I might try and delay my flight. Like I said, we turn it up in the big games. I'm buzzing, I scored the winner – I've scored the winner in every round.'

Wisbech – who have played away four times in the Vase this campaign – will this afternoon find out who they will face in the last eight of the competition.

Joint-boss Dick Creasey said: 'I thought we deserved the win over the balance of the 90 minutes. The script was set for Tom to get the final goal before he flies off to Australia. We're in the last eight and I don't think it matters what football pitch we play on, but we would be delighted now to play a game at home.'
