The 23-year-old, who won World Championship bronze in the team sprint in 2013, was seriously injured in a crash in the Netherlands in January.

Williamson was hospitalised for four weeks with a range of serious spinal injuries, neck fractures, a dislocated and fractured pelvis and a wound down the side of her torso following a crash at the Rotterdam Six-Day – bringing an end to her hopes of competing at the Rio Olympics.

'So excited to get the results I was hoping for,' the former Norwich High School for Girls pupil posted on Instagram. 'The next part of the journey now begins.

'I will be back to full time training at the start of 2017, just under a year after breaking my neck, back & pelvis. I feel very lucky and thankful for my recovery so far, and can't thank everyone enough for their help & support.

'The staff at Stepping Hill hospital have been outstanding, and I owe where I am now to you guys. So thank you again to everyone, you know who you are. 2017 let's go!'

Speaking to the EDP and Evening News following her crash, Williamson pledged not to give up in her fight to get her career back on track.
