North Yorkshire's county team stayed at Lakeside Country Club in Lyng at the weekend to play the Norfolk's Over-60 squad on Saturday and Norfolk Premier and Norfolk A on Sunday.

North Yorks county secretary Roger Green organised the trip for the visitors, while Norfolk Over-60 organiser Teresa Goldsmith coordinated the weekend for the hosts. Norfolk Over-60 went into the match hopeful of holding their own but surprised even themselves as they scored a decisive victory against the visiting team.

The first three sessions of pairs and triples produced identical 12-4 points victories and they went on to win 61-35 on points, 586-471 on shots. Excellent results in the pairs sealed Norfolk Over-60's win, five producing maximum points.

Kerry Greenacre and Shirley George won 18-5, 21-5 and 16-6, Sheila Redwood and Sheila Bragg won 18-7, 20-6 and 16-8, Trevor Pinchin and Geoff Payne won 14-12, 16-13 and 20-7, Dorothy Muttitt and Richard Kightley won 15-7, 16-7 and 17-9, and Len Thurston and Frank Edy won 14-9, 22-7 and 14-12. Unbeaten in the triples were Sheila Doyle, Russell Hales and Ted Redwood, who won 10-8 and 10-7 before drawing their last game 5-5.

On Sunday Norfolk Premier and Norfolk A faced North Yorks in their last pre-season friendly before their opening Inter-County Championship double header away to Essex this Sunday.

Norfolk Premier were in excellent form and stormed to a 35-5 points win with maximum points collected in the triples and rinks. Mark Linsdale, Paul Baker and Chris Mann won 11-8 and 15-4, while Robin Amos, Nigel Willard and Melly Woods won by 13-1 and 13-10.

In the rinks Jean Barnett, Avril Grapes, Debbie Phillips and Brian Saunders won 8-3 and 11-7, while Elaine Oatway, Jean Woods, Peter Barnett and David Lamb won 16-3 and 12-5.

The new pairing of Wymondham's Andrew Stratton and Steve Phillips looks promising and they won their games 14-8 and 11-9. Sprowston's Peter Smart was outstanding in the singles for the A team last winter and he celebrated his promotion to the Premier team singles spot with wins of 23-6 and 12-9.

Norfolk A also got into the act, beating North Yorks 28-12. Sheila Bragg continued to press her claim for a Premier team place winning both her singles games 18-7 and 16-15. Robbie Lamb, Alison Rush and Joe Brown won 14-11 before recording a 19-0 win in their second game. The rinks were unstoppable as Peter Adcock, Russell Hales, Dave Dewing and Les Chadwick won 12-2 and 12-4, while Shirley Brown, Sheila Redwood, Ty Musk and Charlie Archer won 12-8 and 22-0.
