Vauxhall Mallards to face Sprowston in Norfolk Twenty20 Cup final

Vauxhall Mallards will play Sprowston in the final of the Norfolk Twenty20 Cup after defeating EAPL title rivals Swardeston by five wickets at Horsford last night.

Mallards won the toss and asked Swardeston to bat first but were made to doubt the decision when Peter Lambert and Stephen Gray (25) put on 63 in nine overs for the first wicket. But after Lambert had reached his 50 off 43 balls, with two sixes, the Swardeston innings fell away sharply to 109 all out at the end of the 19th over with nobody else managing to get into double figures. Paul Bradshaw, Brett Stolworthy and Stuart Lipshaw each took two wickets.

Mallards reached their target with seven balls to spare thanks to an unbeaten 52 off 46 balls, with three sixes, from Christiaan Schoeman, well supported by Matthew Plater's 24 from 18 balls (one six).

The final, against Norfolk Alliance surprise package Sprowston, is scheduled for Horsford on Friday, July 20.
