ANTHONY Ogogo has reached the quarter finals of the European Olympic qualifiers after a convincing 18-5 win this afternoon (Monday).

The Lowestoft boxer beat Macedonian Fatlum Zuta 18-5 in his first contest in the last 16 of the middleweight category in Trabzon this afternoon.

Beginning his quest to securing a place in the London 2012 Games in style, Ogogo coasted to victory, winning the first round 5-0, the second round 7-2 and the final round 6-3 to progress into Wednesday's quarter final.

And he will now face Georgian Jaba Khositashvili, who has just beaten the world seventh seed Lithuanian Vladimir Milevskis.

After avoiding world number 12 Adem Kilicci, from home favourites Turkey, and the reigning European champion Maxim Koptyakov - who has replaced Russian Artem Chebotarev in the squad - in the early rounds, Ogogo is now just two wins away from fulfilling his Olympic dream.

The 23-year-old GB boxer was in fine form according to his Triple A club coach John Cremin, who is watching the action in Turkey.

Cremin said: 'It was a great win. Anthony looked good and controlled a very tough fighter with his excellent ring skill.'

Revenge is now in the sights of Ogogo, as he now faces Georgian Jaba Khositashvili in the quarters. Ogogo has fought the Georgian before and lost by a single point in the 2011 European Championships. However, this was when Ogogo was first struggling with his shoulder injury as he lost 14-13 in the first preliminary round.

'Anthony is more than capable and yes, we're out for revenge,' Cremin added.

If successful in this last eight encounter, Ogogo will face the winner of Estonian Kaupo Arro or Belarussian Vitali Bandarenka in the semi finals on Friday. Bandarenka beat Frenchmen Rachid Hamani - who Ogogo sparred with recently - earlier today.• Keep track of Ogogo's progress in Turkey throughout the rest of the week by visiting www.lowestoftjournal.co.uk
