Stevens bags a brace for Wisbech

A couple of rare goals from defender Jamie Stevens were the highlight of Wisbech Town's victory over title outsiders Leicester Nirvana.

Wisbech took the lead in the seventh minute, Alex Beck muscling his way past a defender before taking his shot early and finding the net from 20 yards.

Five minutes later, Michael Frew saw a header from a Danny Setchell free-kick loop over the keeper to double the lead.

On 22 minutes, Stevens had time to turn in the box and shoot high into the net from another Setchell free-kick to make it three. Then, eight minutes later, Stevens lost his marker and was able to nod home a Setchell corner at the near post.

Three minutes past the half hour, Josh Ford found space on the edge of the box and, despite shooting with his weaker left foot, the ball squirmed out of the keeper's hands and over the line.

With the game effectively over, the visitors managed to pull a goal back from the penalty spot just before half-time and scored again from the same source in the 80th minute.

A goal from open play five minutes later reduced the arrears further, but Setchell restored the three-goal lead from the spot in the 87th minute after Frew had been brought down.

Meanwhile, the Fenmen have received a 'substantial fine' for failing to control their fans during an FA Vase defeat to Bromsgrove Sporting in January.

An FA hearing in Nottingham heard that home fans had directed racial abuse towards visiting goalkeeper Reece Francis, who gave evidence.

In addition, Wisbech received another fine for a smoke bomb that was thrown into the Bromsgrove Sporting dugout at the same match.

Francis said: 'I am happy about the decision that has been made because at the end of the day something needed to be done about it – justice has been served.

'The club has stuck with me and it is good to see the FA are actually stamping out things like this.'
