Diss Town 1, Thetford Town 3: Thetford Town reached the semi-finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup last night after coming through a stormy match against a Diss side who finished with nine men.

The visitors took the lead on 37 minutes when Bruno Tavares netted after a Matt Blake effort had been blocked but Diss got back on level terms just after the break when a Luke Catchpole shot took a wicked deflection and found the net.

The pivotal moment of the game came on the hour mark when Thetford were awarded a penalty after keeper Mark Camidge was adjudged to have fouled Matt Dixon.

The same player missed from the spot, but the referee awarded a retake for encroachment and, after John Abbott had been sent off for his protests, Dixon converted at the second attempt.

As the game became increasingly fractious Catchpole became the second home player to be sent off – for a second bookable offence – and Thetford made the tie safe on 83 minutes when Dixon netted after good work from Cary Clayton.

• Wroxham's quarter-final tie against King's Lynn at Trafford Park was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The Yachtsmen held a lunchtime inspection ahead of the scheduled last eight tie and the match has now been re-arranged for next Tuesday. Lynn's UCL home league game against Northampton Spencer on Saturday will go ahead as planned.
